Stem Cells: They're more then meets the eye

First and most important, what are stem cells? A stem cell has no specific biological purpose, where as nerve cells conduct electrical signals throughout the body or osteoblasts create new bone. If the body is damaged stem cells can become the required cell, for example if you break a bone some of the stem cells around the break will transform into osteoblasts to repair the damage.

When Americans think of stem cells they think of embryonic stem cells, the cells taken from aborted fetuses, which brings the morality of abortion into the picture. Americans fail to realize that embryonic stem cells are a class of stem cells and that every adult has millions of stem cells in their body. Every bone, tooth, hair root, muscle, blood sample, etc. contains stem cells. The difference between these cells and embryonic stem cells is their ability to differentiate or become other cells.

"Slowing aging and curing disease are within our grasp."
As we age, the concentration of stem cells within our bodies decreases drastically, slowing and impairing the body's ability to heal. Stem cells research could very well result in the greatest and most important breakthroughs in human history. The curing of disease and slowing of aging are within our grasp
